Ford To Rival Porsche in 2018
Welcome back to Twenty5Cars! Today we have a fresh review one one of the newer cars in the upcoming market. And whats on offer in today's review? Ford's new pony on the block, the 2018 Ford Mustang GT! However this will not be any ordinary prancing pony. From rumours Ford has claimed that this new GT will outrun the Porsche GT2 RS!? Bold claim, or a potential reality? We'll find out by giving the the lowdown of this new beast by the American car giant!
'And hear it is! The beautiful yet aggressive Mustang GT 2018! With the front end as angry as a Mexican without his tacos! Mean!'
First things first, the pony of Ford's fleet has been given a little surgery, keeping to the bold curves and styles of the last Mustang GT. However, Ford have given that front end a more aggressive look…probably to scare said Porsche fanboys as they come up their rear end, or maybe to tie up with Ford's 'edge' styling philosophy that they introduced in there fords from 2001. The design on this masterpiece well and truly ties in with the pony's history of aggressive styling, while incorporating with the modern curves of today's Ford's like the Focus line and Fusion line. But what about the main thing that grabs everyone's attention when it comes to this particular car? The beating nuclear reactor that pulls this thing into the new world!.
'The beating power station of the pony. The beautiful 5 litre V8 pulling astonishing 474bhp!'
The previous 2015 Ford Mustang packed up a juicy 5.0 litre V8, coupled with a 6 speed manual box, or the choice of a 6 speed auto (which is possibly the worst possible option on a fun car like this!), churning out a blistering, 435bhp while throwing you back in your grave with 400lb-ft of torque chewing through the RWD system. The new 2018 Mustang does one better. The new pony will recieve another 5 litre V8, but with a twist and a diet of whey protein. The new V8 will be given some good ol’ Shelby love by packing up the same direct port fuel injection and free flowing intake that’s inherited from the 5.2 litre Shelby GT500 V8 engine. This results in an astonishing, 474BHP and 420lb-ft of torque, which surpasses the pony's long time arch nemesis, the Camaro SS! Ford also claims that there will be a entry level engine for the new mustang, giving us the mustang name, but without the 15-25mpg rating. A direct-in-line 4 cylinder engine which is turbocharged. However don’t let this throw you off because you'll actually get a slightly faster horse. Specs show that the 2.3T engine produces the same amount of horses, but with the billow of forced induction youll be creeping a extra 20lb-ft. Its not just the ticker that’s made this Mustang quick of the line, but the gearbox has been revamped too. The new model will be looking to sport a 6 speed manual box, or a new 10 speed auto box with some fancy ford technology labelled as 'shift logic'. Surprisingly here, the auto box in the new pony will outrun the manual box off the line, how fast? Unfortunately, Ford won't lavish us with these specs, but with the new auto box, apart from having 10 gears for that V8 to churn though, the shift logic technology and the launch control the gears change quicker, but without reducing the torque for a nice consistent power and torque curve while shifting through that box with a iconic, feature from mustang heritage, drag mode.
'Side by side comparison with her older sister, the 2016 Mustang GT'
So what does this fancy box do for the acceleration? Gives it a 0-60 in under 4 seconds! To put it into retrospect the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4’s 0-60 is 3.4 seconds, that’s Super Car territory and then ice for Ford to be steeping into, plus from specs from its unveiling, the dash shows that the new pony's V8 can rev up to 7.8K revs before shifting! Maybe this is where ford thinks it can out run the GT2 RS? Only time can tell for this crazy rumour.
''Is this a rear end the GT2 RS will be whimpering at?''
So what hunkers this beast to the ground? Well ford have stepped the mark for the suspension system. When drag mode is activated, the suspension individually automatically adjusts with a system Ford call ‘magaride’. Where the front shocks and springs loosen up while there rear’s stiffen up, to dramatically help with the weight transfer under acceleration. In the cockpit of this fighter jet, Ford have ramped up the dash to a fully electronic system, with plenty of buttons and toys to play around with to your hearts content. Centrr console features a full double din DAB+ radio, with built in satnav, carplay hands free Bluetooth audio, Bose sound system, and full Recaro heated leather bucket seats, to ensure your back end doesn't end up out the passenger window while hitting a corner!
'Full leather interior contrasted with chrome trim and heated bucket seats. Fit for her Majesty herself'
Unfortunately ford hasn’t revealed the pricing for the models of this new mustang, but basing on the past UK imports of the ‘tang, prices could range from 35k-60k dependent on the choice of engine and box. And that ties up our review on fords upcoming new pony. Think that Ford's claim of battling Porsche could really be true with this hunchback beast? Let us know! Thanks for reading and keep posted for more!
