Our Pick: Top 5 Super Cars That Made Great Convertibles
We pick out which 5 Super Cars make it onto our list for best Super-Convertibles!
1. Ferrari 488 Spider
First up is the Ferrari 488 Spider. You probably already know that this is the topless variant of the Ferrari 488 GTB which is magnificent.
The 488 comes with an incredible 3.9 litre Turbocharged V8 with 661hp (493kW) and 561 lb-ft (761 N-M). There's enough power there to keep any petrol head and their son happy.
The Spider is only 50kg heavier than the standard 488 GTB, which weighs in at 1,525kg. The 488 Spider is actually 10kg lighter than its predecessor, the 458 Spider!
Ferrari's 488 Spider makes our top 5 due to Ferrari being able to make a Spider and only gain 50kg! Impressive.
2. Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Spyder
Up next is the menacing creation that is known as the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Spyder. We all love a V10 don't we? Well this monster harbours a 5.2 litre Naturally Aspirated V10. It throws its 602hp (449kW) to all 4 wheels while it's torque sits comfortably at 413 lb-ft (560 N-M). Rather worryingly, there is a Rear-Wheel Drive variant too which is slightly more tame.
The soft top roof will fold behind you in a pretty staggering 17seconds! The Spyder weighs 1,542kg which is 120kg heavier than the Coupe.
The Huracan Spyder is chosen in our top 5 for its exotic looks alongside those monstrous performance figures and that screaming V10 is sure to make a winner!
3. McLaren 675LT Spider
The next Super-Convertible to make our list is McLaren's 675LT Spider. As with the previous contenders, the 675LT Spider is devised from the 675LT Coupe. The 675LT Spider hosts a 3.8 litre Twin-Turbo V8 with a rather sinister 666hp (496kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 N-M). The 675LT Spider only weighs 1,270kg. Yes, that's right, just 40kg heavier than the Coupe. 40kg! But wait, there's more... It is 100kg lighter than the previous 650S Spider!Weight is saved in body panels, carbon fibre, lighter suspension from the P1 and lighter interior and electrical components. Just to add insult to injury, the McLaren 675LT Spider is actually faster than the Ferrari 488 GTB. Staggering. Only 250 units were made and they're belived to have been sold out before the first one was delivered, you can see why!
The McLaren 675LT Spider makes our top 5 for it's weight saving and fantastic performance figures. It doesn't look too bad either.
4. Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante
Next on our list is the beautiful Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante. Sure, it's a mouthful but come on, if looks could kill right? Our first front engined car on the list and that front engine is a 6.0 litre V12. Yes, that say's V12. 592hp (440kW) and 465 lb-ft (630 N-M), it is definitely no slouch. The Zagato Volante doesn't weigh too much either due to every panel being carbon fibre. Much like the original coupe, it is limited to 99 examples.
It makes our top 5 due to its sheer beauty, the history of Zagato and Aston Martin has been extended with the masterpiece pictured above and it's a V12 Convertible... I would hazard a guess that more than 99 people are going to be wanting a V12 Convertible as good looking as this one!
5. Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C Roadster
So, last and by no means least, is this. The Mercedes AMG GT C Roadster. I have met countless people who have no idea what this is. For those of you that don't, the GT C is a model variant of the AMG GT range. It sits nicely between the GT S and the GT R. The GT C houses the same 'Panamericana' grille as the GT R. Another point to note is that all of the GT cars have the 4.0 litre Bi-Turbo V8 engine. In the GT C Roadster, this means it has 550hp (410kW) and 502 lb-ft (680 N-M).The 3 layer fabric soft top comes in 3 colours and can be retracted in 11 seconds at up to 30mph.
It makes it onto our top 5 list for it's menacing 'GT R like' styling, with a bit more of a sociable approach. Could it be the most underrated Super-Convertible here?
What do you think?
So there's our top 5, let us know what you think! What would have in your top 5? What Super Car would you like to see turned into a Super-Convertible? Personally I've always wondered how successful the 2017 Nissan GTR R35 would be as a convertible, or if Ferrari were ever going to take the roof off their F12.
